One of my favorite albums ever is Joan Armatrading’s Walk Under Ladders. This was current material when I saw her perform in San Francisco a zillion years ago.

San Francisco was lit up as the “niners” had just won the Super Bowl. I can remember the horns, people hanging their heads out of car windows, lots of yelling and noise; excitement and chaos.

Anyway, I think I always loved this music and the lyrics because it was fun to to sing along to. In one song, Eating the Bear there is a line that gets my attention and often fits the tone of my mood. Here it is:

“Sometimes the bear will eat you, sometimes you’ll eat the bear”. Well, today the bear ate me.
